第2回 審査員講評 1989/2nd Discussion Forum |

Kenji Ekuan (Industrial Designer) ★ Kenji Ekuan (Industrial Designer) On the whole, the use of light is being valued. As one great change, it seems rather that the creators are "playing," or enjoying themselves with light. There were two different tendencies in the kinds of works; that is, one that has such a high degree of perfection that it has substance and existential value just for that, and the other is that which changes expression according to various situations, allowing the user to participate in the making of it. Jury Panel Kiyoshi Awazu (Graphic Designer) The competition has become livelier and full of vigor. The Gold Prize winning work "In Dedication to the Moon" persists itself in presenting the image of traveling. The Silver Prize winning work "The Light in Twelve Months" had fructified the natural beauty of Japanese paper into different variations, expressing an emotion contrary to the fine light hidden within. Kiyonori Kikutake ( Architect) We feel there were three greatly marked directions. This is 1) implementing or compactness, 2) harmony with the surroundings and atmosphere, and 3) possibilities as a symbol on its own. What gave us favorable impressions regarding the works of art is that though each of theme start out from an extremely simple stand point, most of them gives a myriad of variations of uses depending on how the user moves their positions and so on.
