あらゆるものは光によって照らされている。光は揺れ動いて、物事の卑しげな、怪しげな表情を映し出す。しかし、その卑しい、怪しい部分を持つものが、実は人間の心に届くんじゃないかと思います。

アクセサリーのような、あれば面白いものよりも、本流である照明の目的を考える作品が多かったのは、良い傾向だと思います。エコロジーは今後10年くらいの大きなテーマになると思います。

光の原点は、儀式のために生まれたということです。昼があり、夜があり、その夜を彩る儀式のために生まれたのです。ですから、その源から人工的なものだと認識するべきではないでしょうか。それぞれの国が、光の生まれたところ、原点は何かを考えなければならないと思います。

光の在り方にせまっている作品が一番力強いと思います。そういう意味で、金賞の作品は原点をつかんでいると思いますね。表面的な部分を云々する作品より説得力があります。

Fundamentally speaking, we can trace light back to the genesis or the creation of our earth, but what I feel should be our aim here is not such simple, native notions but rather decadence or the sins created by light.

Everything in our world is illuminated by light. Light can depict various expressions, becoming mysterious and doubtful depending on the way it is reflected. However such humble and doubtful features would surely reach the human heart, I believe.

The good thing about all works is that all works had in mind the genuine purpose of light rather than something purely meant for fun and entertainment as accessory. I believe ecology would be major theme for the next ten years or so.

What I really want to say is that we must consider national differences, that is nationalities, as having greater cultural worth. If two designs would appear to be exactly alike from different nationalities, that would mean quantity outdoing quality so that we would end up having very dull and uninteresting products of art.

I believe the most powerful among all of the works are those most imminent to the way of light. In that sense our gold award-winning work seem to have grasped that point of origin. It is rather rich with playful elements, and yet more persuasive and powerful than those which say something more with their superficial features.
