今回のテーマは、人間のワーク、つまり普遍的な仕事のシチュエーションをつかむことだったと思う。結果的にはアイデア中心の作品とイメージに基づくデザイン中心の作品の2通りが見られた。

日本にはアドバンステクノロジーの開発があります。
ヨーロッパやアメリカに無い技術の情報を流して、その上にどういうデザインが可能か考えてみたいですね。新しい試みを開拓してみたいし、使う人のニーズがどの辺にあるのかを探ってみたい。

今回の受賞作の国際的なバラエティを見ると国民性、文化といったバックグラウンドを超越したユニバーサリティを感じます。世界がつながり、みんなが共有しているものが、ここにもあるんですね。

金賞に選ばれた作品の質の高さには、満足しています。
デザインとして完結しているし、美的だと思います。この様な難しいテーマを与えられ、短期間で作品に仕上げる能力のある若者が育っていることは、大変喜ばしい。

学生にとっては、大変難しいテーマだったようだ。全作品の一部しか、テーマに沿ったものはなかった。仕事というまじめなテーマを与えられたために、今回は自由な発想にブレーキがかかってしまったように感じる。

Perhaps the term "working" led to the design. "Working" means functionalism, so the function and the shape needs to be optimized. In that sense, this theme is sound as it makes you think about modernism and functionalism.

I think the key to this theme was to grasp the working environment of people, that is, work in general, instead of paid work. The results show that students' works can broadly be divided into two: works mainly based on ideas, and works emphasizing design with a solid image of the product in mind.

Some of the developments in advanced technology enjoyed by Japan. Let's make students think about what kind of design is possible by giving them information on such developments that are not available in Europe or America. I want to explore new frontiers and find out users' need s from different point of view.

Considering international aspects, the award-winning works are universal in the sense that they transcend national boundaries and cultural barriers. It tells you that the world is one and we share it together.

The quality of the Gold Award winner is absolutely superb. It is so perfect and aesthetic that you'd think a professional designer made it. I'm glad that there are young people developing skills to deal with tough themes smoothly.

Students seem to have found it quite difficult. In fact, only a number of students managed to create something that corresponded with the theme. This year, their imagination appears to have been poor because we gain them such a "serious" theme as "work".
