あかりのありか
20世紀は照明の世紀でした。様々な光源や照明手法が生まれ、家庭から都市、公共空間から商業空間まで、それぞれの機能、気分にふさわしい「あかり」が世界各国で生み出されてきました。時代の文化状況に適った「かたち」と、技術水準を映した「機能」を融合させて生まれる新しい照明は、ときに時代の文化を象徴するものになってきました。
1987年、小泉産業は照明文化研究を宣言して、「あかりのありか」という通年テーマのもと、「コイズミ国際学生照明デザインコンペ」をスタートさせました。このコンペは世界で唯一、学生を対象とした照明デザインコンペとして注目を集め、15年にわたって開催。その応募者は、延べ37カ国、約2万人にのぼり、これまでの入賞者の多くは、次代の照明デザインを担う優秀な人材として育っています。
さらに1992年からは、募集テーマに「Lighting Ecology」を掲げ、人間社会と地球環境を視野に入れた照明文化のあり方を探求し続けてきましたが、学生たちは常に、多面的な解釈と斬新なデザインで応えてくれました。
21世紀を向かえて照明の持つ可能性と意義は、ますます広がってきています。私たちはこれからもコンペの開催を通じて、深く、照明文化を究めていく力を育てたいと考えています。 |

The Way of Light
The 20th century was the century of light. Many different sources of illumination were invented, accompanied by methods of using them in places from homes to cities, public spaces to corporate enterprises. Each kind of place in each country in the world has evolved its own light suited to its own needs, giving rise to remarkable diversity. Indeed, it is the twin facets of the "form" of light, suited to a particular culture in a particular time, and the "function" of light, which expressed through technological sophistication, that produces the kind of illumination which can symbolize an age or a society.
In 1987, Koizumi Sangyo Corp. announced it's Lighting Culture Research project and launched the "KOIZUMI International Student Lighting Design Competition" with the phrase, "The Way of Light" as its long-term theme. This competition has gained attention as the world's only lighting design contest for students and has been held for 15 years. The number of entrants to date has reached approximately 20,000 students from 37 countries. Many of the prizewinners have gone on to become the talented designers who will carry the torch of lighting design through the next generation.
Further, since 1992, in quest of a "Way of Light" that take into account both societal and environmental concerns, we have added the contest theme of "Lighting Ecology." The students have continued to respond with multifaceted interpretations of the theme and ingenious new designs.
Going into the 21st century, the possibilities and importance lighting will increase more and more. By continuing to offer this competition, we hope to nurture our own ability to bring lighting culture to ever higher levels. |
